Meet JR Romero
Leader of Premarket Pit, Momentum Express & Sultans of Swing Trading
JR came to this country at 19 and worked his way through college selling spare telephone parts on the side. He earned a degree in history and computer science, then launched more than a dozen businesses. Most of them failed.
In 2009 — the middle of the Great Recession, with the market in ruins — he walked out of a job at one of the largest hedge funds in the world to trade his own money. Plenty of people called it reckless. He made every mistake there is to make, and it took years before he traded with the discipline of a pro.
Today he’s up around 5:30, reading news by 6, trading premarket by 7. His son runs his overnight scans. And he still opens sessions by announcing that every time he says “key inflection point,” the room has to drink. Nobody in there takes themselves too seriously. The trading is dead serious.
